Trip to Elementary school and Pizza Party

 Monday October 24.

After my first period of school I and my class mates took off on our field trip to the Peterborough Elementary school. We took our children's books with us and practiced our presentations on the way. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get there and we were welcomed and greeted by the headmaster. After separating into different groups for our presentations we went to several classes. My group and I told the children about the German children's book "The little dragon Coconut" and read a few pages to them in German. The children all seemed very fascinated by the strange language and one of them told us we sounded like "Europe people". Afterwards we showed them how to make their own school cone (Schultüte) because they don't have those here in America. We gave everyone a colorful paper and showed them how to roll it. Then the children painted and decorated their cones with stickers. (The minions were especially popular in grade 3.) After that we wrapped some Crepe paper around them and filled them with small presents. The students all seemed very happy about the school cones and the teachers were very nice too.

Hello we are from Austria. Austria?? You mean Australia?

Paula: The new crafting teacher.

Me having no idea how to do this.
I mean I was ten when we made mine! Just try to look confident, Maya!

Lena looking like the perfect teacher!

Thank you for the wonderful time!

After our presentations and a small lunch break we said goodbye to the headmaster and went to the down town of Peterborough. There we were allowed to go around in small groups and eat or buy something. I and my friends went to the small book shop and it's small café. I found lots of books I want to read. When will I ever have time for that? However after about an hour we started our walk back to ConVal High school. Half of the way it started raining heavily. We all got soaking wet and I barely managed to keep my backpack and the children's book dry. (Poor little dragon coconut.) Glorias's host stopped next to us and took a few students with her in her car. And my group was at the end of the line when suddenly Mia's bus driver went passed us and stopped. We asked him to take us with him to ConVal High school. So I and a few other students were quite lucky and got a ride on the school bus. School was almost over so we went to the library to dry a bit. After I got home I got changed immediately.

The marionette theater.

Short break.

Okay, you know how people say it rains a lot in Salzburg??
Well you have never been to Peterborough!!!

It's raining!

Here I want to add a big thank you to the bus driver! Definitely the hero of the day!

Finally back at school!

At four thirty the Pizza Party started at Cranberry Meadow farm a fancy bed and breakfast pension. Eva (Sophie's host) knows the owner so she helped us make pizza and put them in the oven. They were soooo gooooood! After our Pizza dinner we went upstairs to play Monopoly. But we rather talked than played. So there was no winner. At six thirty I was picked up and we dropped off Sophie at her house.

At home I played cards with my host sister and host parents and finally managed to make my adapter work! So now I am able to write my blog! An absolutely stunning day. Despite getting wet a wonderful experience. Loved how fascinated and interested the children were!
