Field Trip Horseback Riding

Today, eight of us had the chance to do a field trip to a nearby farm and go on an hour long trail ride. Afterwards, we had sandwiches and s‘mores as dessert, before getting a demonstration of the work of two oxen.

Horseback Trail Ride

Soon after getting picked up at the Conval High School, we arrived at a big farm with over 50 horses, eight of which were already being prepared for us.

As soon as everyone had gotten onto the horses and a little photo taking session, we were ready to leave.

We went right into the forest, riding up and down some small hills, on trails through the woods with or just on narrow paths through the woods. It was an amazing experience riding through such a beautiful landscape that even our pictures can‘t do justice.

 

  

Lunchtime

After returning to the farm and saying goodbye to Angel, Chester, Smokey and all the other horses, we went to my host family‘s house where we had sandwiches for lunch and s‘mores as a dessert.

 

Oxen

Last but not least, we went down to a small square to get a demonstration of how to work with oxen under the yoke. In the end, we even got the chance to sit on a little cart that was attached to the yoke, to get pulled by the two oxen Chip and Dale.

 

4 H Club

After the others had left, I returned to the farm we did the trail ride at to join my little host sister at a really interesting and informative  4 H Club meeting (4 H Club is a youth organisation), where a farrier showed us how to change a horse‘s shoes and trim its hooves. 

 

It  was a really great day together with all the animals and I would personally love to go on another trail ride at some point.
