Today was a day like no other, possibly the most eventful day in the past three weeks.
Right after breakfast we took off to China town. The way there was already a sight to behold: Because our Hotel is by Wall Street we naturally looked at the Stock Exchange and passed many important government buildings on our way North.
The 9/11 museum was shocking and it is difficult to put into words the feelings the exhibitions evoked in each person. Taking pictures wasn’t allowed in most parts of the museum and I feel like it is better that way. Being there in person really demonstrates the impact 9/11 had on the USA and the world, that previously was hard to grasp, at least for me, seeing as I was born five years after the attack.
We then took the Subway to the MoMA. My two favorite moments:
Seeing a picture that is as famous as “The Starry Night” in real life. It’s more green and smaller than it seems on the internet.
This video installation where you could take nice pictures was the most fun thing in the whole museum. It wasn’t very busy so you could really take your time and enjoy the moment.
From the MoMA it was only a short walk to Central Park. There we went to Strawberry Fields, the memorial for John Lennon. The walk there gave us a good impression of the park and the peace that can be enjoyed there.
The Subway took us to Times Square. I didn’t feel totally safe but eventually every student and teacher made it out of there completely unharmed.
Our last stop was Grand central station. On our way there we could see the Empire State Building with it’s beautiful lights.
The station was breathtaking both on the inside and the outside.
